(LB67) Quality Engineer

Bedfordshire | £38,000.00 - 40,000.00 Per Annum (22 days holiday / )

If you’re a hands-on quality professional who enjoys being close to production—not stuck behind a desk—this is a role where you’ll genuinely make an impact.

This is a small, well-established engineering business delivering low-volume, high-mix work.  We’re looking for someone to take ownership of quality on the shop floor—while also having the opportunity to broaden into areas like NPI, systems, or H&S depending on your strengths.

The Core of the Role:

This role is built around practical quality and inspection:
  • Carrying out first-off, in-process, and final inspection
  • Working from engineering drawings and checking tolerances
  • Using manual measuring equipment (verniers, calipers, micrometers, height gauges)
  • Identifying non-conformance, managing NCRs, and ensuring parts are reworked or scrapped appropriately
  • Managing inspection flow via the ERP system and physical inspection areas
  • Supporting new part approvals alongside senior management
If you enjoy being on the shop floor, solving problems, and taking ownership—this is the heart of the job.

Beyond the core, this role can evolve depending on your experience:

Option A – NPI / Engineering Focus
  • Supporting or leading new product introduction (NPI)
  • Liaising with customers and internal teams on manufacturability
  • Basic 3D CAD work (SolidWorks) – training available if needed

Option B – Quality Systems Focus
  • Maintaining and improving the ISO 9001 system
  • Supporting audits and continuous improvement activities

Option C – Additional Value (Not Essential)
  • Health & Safety involvement (IOSH/NEBOSH beneficial but not required)
The business is open-minded—this role will be shaped to get the best out of the right person.

The Environment
  • Small, close-knit team
  • Varied, low-volume work
  • Direct access to decision-makers—you’ll see the impact of your work quickly
  • A business that values practical people who get stuck in
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Hands-on inspection experience using manual measuring tools
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive mindset
Nice to have (not essential):
  • ISO 9001 experience
  • NPI or engineering exposure
  • Fabrication / Sheet metal knowledge
  • CAD (SolidWorks / Radan / CADMAN or similar)
  • IOSH / NEBOSH
Package
£38,000 – £40,000
22 days holiday (rising to 25 with service) + bank holidays
Sick pay scheme (service-related)
Pension
Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm

Why Apply?

This isn’t a siloed quality role.

You’ll be the go-to person for quality on site, with the opportunity to grow the role around your strengths—whether that’s engineering, systems, or continuous improvement.

If you want variety, ownership, and a role where your input actually matters, it’s worth a conversation.
